The town also hosts the Tibetan Government-in-exile. The town is located in the Kangra Valley, in the shadow of the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas at an altitude of 1,457 meters (4,780 ft). References to Dharamshala and its surrounding areas are found in ancient Hindu scriptures such as Rig Veda and Mahabharata. The Dalai Lama Temple (also referred to as Tsuglagkhang Temple), a completely well-known Tibetan Buddhist monastery, is located in McLeod Ganj within the Dharamshala District of Himachal Pradesh, India. The head of Tibetan Buddhism, the Dalai Lama, has lived in this peaceful place when you consider that 1959 and it is his non-secular home. Bhagsu/Bhaksu Temple & Bhagsu Waterfall (also known as Bhagsunag or Bhagsunath) is a village near McLeod Ganj in Dharamshala, in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The village is the site of Bhagsunag waterfall and the ancient Bhagsunag Temple. St. John Church in the Wilderness is a Protestant church dedicated to John the Baptist. It was built in 1852 and is located near Dharamshala, India, on the way to McLeod Ganj, at Forsyth Gunj. Set amidst deodar forest, and built in neo-Gothic architecture, the Church is known for its Belgian stained-glass windows donated by Lady Elgin (Mary Louisa Lambton), wife of Lord Elgin. The Church is under Diocese of Amritsar. Rev.Khojee is the presbyter in charge of this church. Dal Lake is a small mid-altitude lake(1,775 meters above sea level) situated at a distance of 11 kilometers away from Dharamshala near the village of Tota Rani on Mcleodganj Naddi road in district Kangra Himachal Pradesh. Dal Lake is 2KM walk westwards from Mcleodganj bazaar. In the evening, return back to the pre booked hotel after a full day of travel for an overnight stay.
